What will you do as a Senior Software Engineer?

As a Senior Software Engineer, your role involves developing and deploying an IIoT-focused IoT edge platform, facilitating the convergence of the industrial and IT world. You'll play a key part in automating various processes, adhering to GitOps guidelines for deployment, security, and testing.

What does your day look like?

As part of the Vopak Global IT organization, your role will revolve around driving innovation and digitization, while also maintaining the current IT landscape at our Dutch headquarters. You'll be a valuable member of the Edge team within the IT/OT Infrastructure Services department, working alongside two engineers, an architect, and a lead responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining the edge environment. Collaboration with other multidisciplinary teams will be essential in your day-to-day activities, ensuring seamless integration between IT and operational technologies as you contribute to Vopak's technological advancement.
 

Core Responsibilities

• Deploy and maintain IoT edge platform worldwide, growing our install base to all Vopak terminals.

• Develop new IoT edge functionalities with scalability and maintainability in mind.

• Maintain the product, upgrade components, and rolling releases without disturbing production sites.

• Be a researcher and innovator of IoT edge technology
   

Skillset preference:

• Experience in building RESTful APIs using Node.js / Javascript / Typescript

• Experience with MongoDB

• Experience with AWS (AWS Lambda, AWS IoT, CloudFormation, or CDK)

• Experience writing Unit Tests

• Experience with Ansible

• Experience implementing CI/CD / GitOps / Gitlab

• Preferably experience with deployment scripting, containerisation, and maintaining a swarm of machines

• Conceptual ITIL and Agile/Scrum knowledge
   

Industrial Technologies (nice to have, optional, not mandatory):

• Basic knowledge and understanding of OT concepts and protocols (e.g. Modbus, OPC DA/UA), industrial networks, etc.

• Basic knowledge of the concepts and purpose of Process Control Systems (e.g. SCADA, DCS).
   

What do we expect from you as a Senior Software Engineer?

• Minimum Bsc educational level in Information Technology or similar preferred

• Minimum of 5 years of working experience in software development

• Fluent in business English (verbal and written)

• Strong software engineering skills, preferably with web technologies

• Be able to distinct industry trends and best practices 

• Affinity with IoT

• Willingness to learn and teach

• Enjoys collaborating, and building something together
