Purpose of the job :The Senior Manager / General Manager – New Energy Development is responsible for initiating, developing and guiding the growth potential across the Vopak China & North Asia Division on the energy transition field. Business development activities vary from development of energy transition projects to improve/expand existing terminals, to development and marketing of new business concepts. Depending on the level of a candidate's experiences and qualifications, this role can be a Senior Manager or General Manager, This Senior Manager / General Manager reports to the Vice President – Business Development & Commercial Vopak China & North Asia Division.

Key Accountabilities

Your three main missions:

  • ‘You will be driving growth in the Vopak China & North Asia Division with focus on the Energy Transition'
  • ‘You will Identify business opportunities for new energy storage solutions across the China & North Asia Division with focus in Hydrogen, CO2 Infrastructure, Redox-Flow Batteries and new feedstocks'
  • ‘You will create value in a challenging and new market environment‘

With your genuine interest in growth and energy transition you will create a basis to position Vopak China & North Asia for new opportunities. You will use your network, knowledge, insights, vision and skills, and you will develop initiatives to improve our organization. As an entrepreneur you see opportunities instead of threats.

Your job in bullet points?

  • Maintain and build on a network to position Vopak to grow in new business areas, in the domain of new energies;
  • Contributes to the development of the energy transition business strategy and after approval executes the activities according to the plan;
  • Manage in- and external stakeholders during initiation, selection and definition phase from a business point of view;
  • Identify, evaluate and compare business opportunities, partnerships, customers and preferred locations;
  • Develop business cases for appointed location, connect with senior level customers, structure new value chains and accomplish agreements with partners;
  • Define and write investment proposals in line with Vopak Project Management.
  • Require frequent travel within the Division, especially in China

Functional requirements

Who we are looking for:

The ideal candidate has a Comprehensive understanding of energy transition and new energy storage developments, including financing, construction, operations, maintenance, and economic drivers. Solid understanding of relevant local legislation, regulatory landscape, and the requirements of doing business especially in China in new energy storage industry.  Knowledge on the South Korea or Vietnam market is a plus. The candidate has a proven track record in business development and genuine interest and ability to position Vopak in the energy transition. He or she has a network used as a basis for new business opportunities and translates this into an infrastructural solution for the customers. This role requires excellent self-starting skills, communications skills, both oral and written ( fluent in English and mandarin). Networking skills to successfully handle social as well as business interactions with various stakeholders.

You also have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Engineering, or equivalent; A Master's degree in these fields is a plus
  • Minimum of 5-10  years relevant international work experience in general, operations and/or BD management in relevant industries;
  • Understanding of value chains and product flows at a senior position in the industry and energy transition platforms;
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental laws and regulations;
  • Insight in market circumstances, including customer and competitor information in the industries;
  • Project management knowledge and skills;
  • Knowledge of company offerings, contracts, investment guidelines, services and company policies, rules, regulations and procedures;
  • Understanding of financial (project) constructions, deal structures and development of business cases.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, critical thinking, innovation, and passion for Energy Transition
